Gary E. Hoover, Founder, Hoovers.com From the National Speakers Association Winter Workshop
February 2000People who build great enterprises have1) A sense of curiosity - they get off the beaten path and are always looking around.
2) A sense of history - they understand trends, the ones which change a little at a time and which are often taken for granted.
3) A sense of geography: how people and places differ and change over time - they understanding the traditions, background and culture and such trends as the emergence of Asia as an economic power.
4) A clear and consistent vision - a vision even a third grader can understand, one that is taken into account in every decision, one that they stick with through thick and thin.
5) An understanding that the only valid reason for an enterprise to exist is to serve people - to improve the lives of customers. Serve Main Street, not Wall Street.
6) An understanding that all they have is the hearts and minds of their people - they live by the golden rule.
7) A passion for what they do.
