Energy for Life

Interview with Wayne "The Mango Man" Pickering, N.D., Sc.M.

Nutritional Performance Coach + Life Management Consultant
Triathlete + 1996, 1997 nominee for The Healthy American Fitness Leader Award

sl: What are three of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to keeping a high level of energy?

WP: Three of the biggest energy draining mistakes people make are

1) Eating the "whites" - white sugar, white flour, white rice. Why? The nutrients have been removed from these types of foods. White sugar has no calcium in it, while sugar cane does. We have a system of checks and balances in our bodies. If you eat something that is deficient in a nutrient, your body will rob it from some place else. So, when you eat sugar, it not only supplies no nutrients, it robs you of those you already have.

2) Drinking anything that fizzles. The fizzle makes the drink high in phosphates. It fizzles, you'll fizzle. Phosphate drains your energy. Phosphate are acidic. To balance this, the body draws on calcium and other alkaline minerals from the body. This is because of the pancreas and the way the alkaline minerals work together.

3) Eating greasy foods will rob you of your energy. It takes a lot more energy to process all that fat. And besides, it clogs your arteries.

Diets are something you start and finish. Eating is something you do for life. Here are 5 habits to keep you encouraged and going with your health.

1) Walk one mile everyday.
2) Drink four glasses of water a day.
3) Start everyday with fresh fruit.
4) Don't feel guilty if you miss.
5) Every 30 days evaluate and reward yourself.
Anything that gets attention gets improved. Decide what you want.

I am amazed how people know more about sickness that about being healthy. Most people don't want to take responsibility for their own health.

You are special. You are not a garbage dump. Don't sell yourself short. If you want to be tough you got to eat good stuff.
